Casita Maria presents the solo exhibition leftovers by Bronx-based Puerto Rican and Peruvian multidisciplinary artist and food writer Alexis Marie Montoya. The exhibition features a series of 16 artworks collaging imagery from food, fashion and lifestyle magazines to explore the connection between food, culture and Latinx identity.

This bill of all-star musicians is led by alto saxophonist and bandleader Charles McPherson, who famously performed with Charles Mingus in the ‘60s and recorded ensemble renditions of Charlie Parker works for the soundtrack to the 1988 Parker biopic Bird. He performs here with Terell Stafford, a veteran of his quintet and a gifted, versatile trumpet player with an adventurous expression of lyricism.

As part of the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival, the Cookers headline a group of innovative artists that embody a sense of community. Most of this super septet—comprising Billy Harper, Cecil McBee, George Cables, Eddie Henderson, Billy Hart, David Weiss, and Donald Harrison—are veterans of the heady mid-’60s when hard bops gave way to the next wave of jazz, and have been pushing the limits of the sound ever since….

A sprawling band of virtuosic players and risk-taking soloists join us for an exciting performance worth writing homeabout. Opening the show is the saxophonist and flutist T.K. Blue, a Jazzmobile alumnus and educator who has released more than a dozen LPs as a bandleader.
